The Nar Phu Valley with Thorong La Pass Trek is one of Nepal’s most adventurous and culturally rich trekking experiences. This journey combines the remote, restricted valleys of Nar and Phu with the classic Annapurna Circuit and the legendary Thorong La Pass (5,416 m).
The trek takes you through isolated Tibetan-style villages, dramatic gorges, high mountain passes, and sacred pilgrimage sites, offering a perfect blend of wilderness, culture, and high-altitude adventure.

Itinerary

Day 01Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350 m)

Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer to your hotel. The day is free to rest and recover from your journey. In the evening, meet the trekking team for a detailed briefing about the Nar Phu Valley route, restricted area regulations, and equipment check.

Day 02Kathmandu Sightseeing & Trek Preparation

A guided sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Valley’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Pashupatinath Temple, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, and Swayambhunath. The afternoon is dedicated to trek preparation, permit arrangements, and final gear checks.

Day 03Drive from Kathmandu to Jagat (1,410 m) – Drive: 8–9 hrs

A scenic drive follows the Trishuli and Marshyangdi rivers through terraced hills, rural villages, and mountain roads. Jagat marks the entry point of the Annapurna region and the beginning of the trekking route

Day 04Trek from Jagat to Dharapani (1,960 m) – Trek: 7–8 hrs

The trail ascends gradually through forested paths, stone staircases, and traditional villages. Crossing suspension bridges and waterfalls, you officially enter the Annapurna Conservation Area before reaching Dharapani

Day 05Trek from Dharapani to Koto (2,610 m) – Trek: 5–6 hrs

The route continues along the Marshyangdi River through pine and fir forests. Mountain views become more dramatic as you approach Koto, the gateway to the remote Nar Phu Valley.

Day 06Trek from Koto to Meta (3,560 m) – Trek: 7–8 hrs

Leaving the main Annapurna trail, the path enters the isolated Nar Phu Valley. The trek follows narrow gorges, crosses suspension bridges, and passes through rugged landscapes before reaching the high alpine settlement of Meta.

Day 07Trek from Meta to Phu Gaon (4,250 m) – Trek: 7–8 hrs

The trail climbs through arid terrain and ancient settlements, offering breathtaking views of rock formations and snow-covered peaks. Phu Gaon is a dramatic medieval village with strong Tibetan influence, perched beneath towering cliffs.

Day 08Acclimatization Day at Phu Gaon (4,250 m)

A rest and acclimatization day to adapt to the high altitude. Optional hikes include visits to Phu Monastery or nearby viewpoints. This day also provides insight into the unique culture, lifestyle, and traditions of the local community.

Day 09Trek from Phu Gaon to Nar Village (4,110 m) – Trek: 6–7 hrs

Descend from Phu Valley and cross high pastures and remote trails toward Nar Village. The walk offers expansive views of the surrounding mountains and introduces another culturally rich Tibetan-style settlement.

Day 10Acclimatization & Preparation Day at Nar Village (4,110 m)

A crucial acclimatization day before crossing high passes. Short hikes to nearby ridges help the body adjust. Time is also used for rest and preparation for the upcoming Kang La and Thorong La crossings.

Day 11Trek from Nar to Kang La Pass (5,320 m) to Ngwal (3,660 m) – Trek: 7–8 hrs

A challenging day crossing Kang La Pass, offering stunning panoramic views of Annapurna II, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak. A steep descent follows into the Annapurna region, reaching the village of Ngwal.

Day 12Trek from Ngwal to Manang (3,519 m) – Trek: 4–5 hrs

A pleasant trek through alpine villages and open valleys. The trail follows traditional trade routes with spectacular views of Annapurna and Gangapurna glaciers before reaching Manang.

Day 13Trek from Manang to Yak Kharka (4,110 m) – Trek: 3–4 hrs

A gradual ascent through alpine terrain with wide open landscapes. The thin air and increasing altitude mark the approach toward the Thorong La Pass.

Day 14Trek from Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi (4,600 m) – Trek: 3–4 hrs

A short but steady climb along rugged terrain leads to Thorong Phedi, the base camp for crossing the Thorong La Pass. The afternoon is reserved for rest and preparation.

Day 15Trek from Thorong Phedi to Thorong La Pass (5,416 m) to Muktinath – Trek: 7–8 hrs

The most demanding yet rewarding day of the trek. An early start leads to the crossing of Thorong La Pass, one of the highest trekking passes in the world. After enjoying breathtaking views, descend to the sacred pilgrimage site of Muktinath.

Day 16Trek from Muktinath to Jomsom (2,700 m) – Trek: 5–6 hrs

A scenic descent through the Kali Gandaki Valley with views of Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri. The landscape becomes dry and windswept as you approach Jomsom.

Day 17Flight from Jomsom to Pokhara – Flight: ~30 min

A spectacular morning flight through the Kali Gandaki Gorge offers stunning aerial views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges before landing in Pokhara.

Day 18Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu – Drive: 5–6 hrs

Drive back to Kathmandu through rivers, hills, and countryside landscapes. The evening is free for relaxation or farewell dinner.

Day 19Departure

Transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport according to your flight schedule, marking the end of this remote and adventurous Himalayan journey.
