Everest Excursion with Kala Patthar Landing

The classic Everest helicopter tour: an early departure from Kathmandu, refuelling at Lukla, a 10-minute landing at Kala Patthar facing Everest and the Khumbu Icefall, and breakfast at the Everest View Hotel above Namche Bazaar.

Departure is at about 6:30 am from Kathmandu Domestic Airport. After refuelling at Lukla, the helicopter flies up the Khumbu valley past Namche Bazaar, Tengboche and Pheriche. At Kala Patthar guests have 10–15 minutes facing Everest, Nuptse and Lhotse. Breakfast follows at the Everest View Hotel with views of Ama Dablam, and the group is back in Kathmandu by late morning.

Operating Terms and Safety

Aircraft and Capacity

  • Flights are operated by licensed Nepali operators, mainly with Airbus AS350 B3e helicopters, the type best suited to high-altitude work.
  • Up to 5 passengers at lower altitudes; at landings above 4,500 m (Kala Patthar, Gokyo) the load is reduced, and groups may be shuttled in two sorties.
  • The total passenger weight limit is approximately 400 kg at lower altitudes and 250–300 kg for high landings. Baggage is limited to small daypacks on scenic flights.

Weather and Timing

  • Mountain flights operate in the early morning, when visibility is best; departure times are confirmed the day before.
  • The pilot may delay, reroute or cancel a flight for safety; landing duration at high altitude is limited to 10–15 minutes.
  • If a flight is cancelled by the operator due to weather, it is rescheduled or refunded in full.

Booking and Payment

  • All rates include 13% VAT. Where a restricted area applies (Manaslu, Humla / Hilsa, Upper Mustang, Dolpo), the government heli permit of USD 200 per flight is included in the rate shown.
  • Extra or en-route landings and hospital touches are charged at USD 260 each. Local taxes and fees outside the airport are payable by the charter party.
  • A deposit of 50% is required to block the helicopter; the balance is due 7 days before the flight.
  • Cancellation more than 7 days before the flight: full refund less bank charges. Within 7 days: 50%. Within 48 hours: no refund.
  • Rates are subject to change with fuel prices and government landing fees. Restricted area permits (Upper Mustang, Manaslu) are charged extra.

Health and Documents

  • Guests flying from Kathmandu directly to high altitudes should be aware of the risk of altitude sickness; high landings are kept short for this reason.
  • Passport or ID details of all passengers are required at the time of booking.
  • For rescue flights, the guest’s insurance policy number and emergency contact must be shared before the trek.
